Welcome to Sonny Jones' Website
Woodturning is an art form that involves spinning wood on a large power tool, called a lathe. By bringing a sharp cutting tool into the path of the spinning wood, the wood can be cut to a desired shape. After sanding and polishing, that piece of wood becomes an expression of the artist.
I have been turning wood for over 15 years. I am a retired chef. I believe that we should eat locally grown, sustainable foods. I also believe that art should be created from local woods as often as possible. What could be more aesthetically pleasing than making an apple pie with a rolling pin made from the wood of a local sourced apple tree? Family heirlooms are often created when a tree falls or needs to be cut down. The owner may want a wooden fruit bowl to remember that tree. If you live locally, I am able to create from your wood.
Don’t burn it. Turn it!”
Many of my creations are culinary related. I show my artistic side in my collection of carvings and vessels and my playful side with my Whimsical Wood collection.
I have recently moved from Pittston in Northeastern Pennsylvania where I was a member of the Lehigh Valley Woodturners, The Jersey Shore woodturners and the Wyoming Valley Art League.
